The origins of Squillace are to be attributed to the Greek settlements, which in the period of maximum expansion reached the Calabrian coast, founding the city of Skylletion.

Passed under various dominations, it has always maintained its ceramic vocation, being that the subsoil is rich in clay.

Starting from a production of everyday objects, the potters of Squillace acquired, invented and reinterpreted various techniques, among which the most peculiar is graffiti, now recognized with the DOC brand at national level.

The Municipality is counted among the 36 Italian Cities of Ceramics.
