"Uno chef per Elena e Pietro", two young people who were full of joy
Yes, Elena and Pietro were two young people who had a bad accident some years ago.
After their death, Elena's parents and uncles of Pietro decided to invest all income coming from the insurance following the accident.
In fact, Elena's mother always says that her daughter wanted to do something special in her life.
This is why they have started a free culinary school for young chefs coming from all the region of Calabria.
The free school "Uno chef per Elena e Pietro"
The school is situated in a renovated building in the center of Bianco, a small town in the province of Reggio Calabria.
It aims to ensure a future working life to many Calabrian young adults.
The school is twinned with the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo.
The scientific direction is entrusted to Silvio Greco and the didactic one to chef Bruno De Francesco of Serra San Bruno.
High qualified teachers are coming from different universities and from different experiences to teach students for free: academics, producers, entrepreneurs, institutional figures.
Also, there is a slow food expert that teaches students the real value of food and respect for food producers who work in harmony with the environment and ecosystems.
After the first culinary course at the school, some of the students have already found a job in the restaurant sector.
For example, Filippo now works in London in one of Oscar Farinetti’s Eataly restaurants, and Sara has become a pastry chef.
From the energy that pain can give, here is the bet won.
And the pride of being able to tell the world that in a small strip of Calabria there is a school for chefs that teaches young people the importance of quality productions.
Not only. Here students learn the mechanisms that guide the world of nature, the techniques of processing products into dishes and the importance of sustainable nutrition.
The Pratticò Arturo agricultural farm
The Pratticò family, owner of the school, is also the owner of the homonymous farm that converts agricultural products such as tomatoes and bergamot and produces olive oil.
We of Made in Calabria Italy are proud to sell their products in the Unites States (for example, see the tomato sauce Del Casale).
